Got to get Spicy to make this thrifty tassel and fall decorations – thanks to the local thrift stores !

I have always admired those decorative tassels and wanted to try making one myself…..This one cost me about 3 bucks -

043

First – steal a plastic lid from one of your spices – ya know the 50 cent ones are the perfect size….

031

I have lots of fabric from quilting….so cut off some 1/2 strips and use some kind of twine (I used jute) to tie in the middle.

Poke a hole – (I used my hubby’s screwdriver ) in the middle of the cap. Thread the tie that you bundled the fabric with, through the hole and double knot tightly.

Next , get some ribbon and heat up your hot glue gun and make some loops and glue the outside of the lid.

Find something to glue on top – an ornament or such. I used this pumpkin, I bought for a dollar at Michaels .It was not an ornament and impossible to stick a hole through. I hot glued a ribbon holder to the back and then hid it with leaves and a small bow.

I added the fancy smanchy fringe to the last layer – you will need 1/4 a yard – I found Hobby Lobby to be the best price – about $1.50

There are some great tutorials out in blog-land if you search…….I am in the process of making some others and will post at another time.

035

I bought this stand a couple of months ago at the GW – it was $9.00 and I really didn’t want to spend that much …on the underside it has an original price tag of $70 bucks…..I just fell in love with those curves. I hated the finish but, as always my trusted partner – Mr. Spray Paint was by my side….

008

039

I already owned the cloche and have been looking for a bottom for months…I love the result.

001

Since I have few more weeks of no heavy lifting – tassels are permitted  and fall flower arrangements….. I think the cat and pumpkins are going bye-bye for a pretty ribbon… I found this arrangement at the thrift store –it was covered up by fake spider webs on a displayed – Yes, I have no shame – I saw it was $ 3.50 (half off day) and I removed the webbing and plopped it in my cart. Remember that thrift shopping is treasure hunting – look high and low – scavenge, people !

020

024

The ceramic piece was a couple of bucks and another arrangement…

026

I

027  Here is a candle stand, I added a pumpkin (from the thrift store and made a ribbon – that I bought a spool  from the dollar store. )029

This scrolly thing I posted this earlier this summer – I think it is going to be a great any season flower holder. I used dollar store ribbon and dollar store flowers.

019

See, I even replaced my wall plates with brown and white transfer ware – all from the thrift stores…

028

The top of the armoire – dressed up for fall  !

Great post~thanks so much for sharing the how-to for the tassel! It came out great! Went to the thrift store this week & found a great candleholder they had on top of a rack. Cashier made me put it back because she said it was for their halloween display!! It even had a price tag on it. Told her they need to put up a sign that says "for display". Unbelievable! Anyway, I'm going to try making some tassels instead! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Kammy,
You left a comment about finding silver on my recent post. I just wanted to give you a quick tip...I usually look on the back of each piece for anything that says silver. It's usually International. They are also a bit heavier than regular stainless. On larger pieces FB Rogers is a brand too. Sometimes is just says Sterling. Good luck finding pieces! Enjoy your Monday!

I love the tassel - you are so creative with all your Fall decorations, got me inspired to start a little bit of Fall around here, but it's still too warm...I'm waiting a bit longer.
BTW - while I do find the occasional great bargain at our GW - you must have one that posts way more reasonable prices. I'm envious of all your steals! The footed stand, and the plates are fab!
Hope you are feeling much stronger now. Take good care of yourself!
