Thrifty Treasures and Met Monday – The Mirror from Snow White, A Tuffet to Sit Upon and Other Tales…….

Do you remember Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs ? Here are some famous lines from the film:

Queen: Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?
Magic Mirror: Famed is thy
beauty, Majesty. But hold, a lovely maid I see. Rags cannot hide her gentle grace. Alas, she is more fair than thee.
Queen: Alas for her! Reveal her name.
Magic Mirror: Lips red as the rose. Hair black as ebony.
Skin white as snow.
Queen: Snow White! Kammy !

Ha, ha , ha , ha , ha…..I am now the owner of this fine mirror !

After searching every time I go to a thrift store or garage sale, I found it ! It was $4.99 and a gaudy gold ! In the film, the “Slave of the magic mirror” spoke to the Queen…The Queen is gone and now the mirror speaks to me….Unfortunately it has told me to lose 15 pounds and gosh you are getting old ! The nerve I say ! I though maybe by modernizing it  (the “Slave”) would be pleased and say nice things to me…..You be the judge ….Here are before during and after photos:

6-20-09 089  Please don’t look too close – I was a mess…painting other stuff all day…..I think I need that Fairy Godmother from Cinderella !

6-20-09 092

I just taped her up good and sprayed it with one buck spray paint.

001

I like the way it turned out (hope the “Slave “ in the mirror does too ! See that big cabinet in the mirror ? It is one of my craigslist finds and it will be getting done soon too ! I also have a buffet/sofa table underneath – which really needs a re-do….I have a feeling that I will be working on it in the next couple of days !

Now on to our next project:

Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet
Eating her curds and whey,
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away

Remember this little Nursery Rhyme ? I found this next little “tuffet” at the thrift store for $2.99 – it had good bones and it was very sturdy to sit up,it has a storage area under the top that lifts right out (no hinges) …although at the the time did not look like a “tuffet” but something used in a brothel….Just kidding: Where do you think it was used and for what ? Here are before and after photos:

6-20-09 086

Love that Red Vinyl ?????

013

015

Remember my magazine rack/table from last week ? See how they look together ! They will be on the floor of course – I just put them on my work table to get a better view ! I used the left over fabric from the magazine rack ,for the tuffet ! I will use my tuffet not for eating curds and whey… What the heck is curds and whey ? Can the curds be like cheese curds – or maybe cheetos – I love cheetos….(Note to self – do not eat cheetos when working with fabric or touch newly painted items…yes, been there done that !)

Next project:

I don’t have a fable, rhyme or anything fun about the last couple of Thrifty/Met Monday treats…..Just my cheapness showing through…I had left over fabric and don’t care to add  more to my fabric stash so I made a little book to record things I  would like to remember about all my Bloggy Friends ….as always you inspire me to get busy and create , Thank You !

6-20-09 096  Started with a 50 cent composition book – I always buy these cuz I like the sturdy covers. They are 50 cents around August of each year.

 6-20-09 097

Gathered up my fabrics, ribbon  and buttons. Heated up my glue gun – I forgot how I love my glue gun…..I then remembered more then once that it hurts when the glue touches your skin – Ouch !

6-20-09 098 Ta Da !  Easy Peasy project ! No sewing either…..6-20-09 100 6-20-09 101

I did the inside too – I need to iron out that crease – but , as usual I was too giddy with excitement to get the pictures and get it published on my blog ! Can you relate ????

One more project – cuz it was the easiest -

I found a white lamp for $ 2.99 at the thrift store…Oh and before I forget I have to tell you that my cart was super full – and that was before I emptied out a bunch – cuz I had to be  a little realistic…anyway this little ol man behind me said “looks like you are furnishing an apartment” I said “No, I got the decorator illness!” Then he showed me this swim trunks he was buying for a couple of bucks and he was proud !

6-20-09 093

The only thing I had to do was wipe this baby down and cover the electrical part with tape….ten seconds… (please note that the table underneath was white – can you tell I have been using a lot of black lately ??) I also painted the cord black…..I am learning that paint covers everything – plus me – you should see me – especially my feet from all the over spray !

008

Guess what ? I found the lamp shade for 2 bucks at the same store – so for a whopping FIVE BUCKS I got a nice lamp !

That is enough don’t cha think ????

Hugs ~ Kammy

Oh my, you got a lot of good stuff! It all turned out really cute. I hope I can find a mirror like that soon!

You did good! I think you got a stool that used to go with a sewing machine. I sort of remember those things from my childhood!(Sewing machine, that is). Of course, loving Mother Goose as I do, it had to be from Little Jack Horner, who sat in the corner! Thanks for more inspiration for covered notebooks. I know I have a few of those in my school supplies. Now to get busy. I need a slave driver.

Wow, you have been busy. I need to get busy too. I have so many projects to do but can't seem to get in the right mood to work on them. But it makes me happy to collect projects, lol. I'm sure it would make me even happier to do some of them. I have that very same thrift store lamp. I'll probably use it white, just need to find a bargain shade.

Kammy, You've got some fabulous re-dos! Really outstanding job and very beautifully done! Oh, by the way, whey is the liquid after the milk has been curddled - gross! And also sometimes the liquid from cottage cheese. So either Miss Muffet was eating cottage cheese, or she was eating the curdled milk chunks and liquid and the spider came along to save her life from food poisoning? Yuk! Linda

I did not read all of the comments, so you may already have your answers ... the little bench looks like a piano teachers bench. So that they could sit next to their student by the piano, without having to sit on the bench with the student.
Curds & whey are what we know as un-pasturized cottage cheese.
